Position Summary:

The Senior Paralegal will provide vital legal and administrative support for the organization. This role will focus on drafting and reviewing contracts, managing the contract lifecycle database, legal research, document preparation, regulatory compliance support, special projects, and general paralegal duties. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in contract analysis, agreements review, and healthcare compliance knowledge with a sharp eye for risk and compliance issues. The Senior Paralegal is a key player in maintaining the organization’s legal efficiency while embodying the organization’s core values. This role reports to the Senior Vice President, Compliance and Quality.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review, draft, and assist in the negotiation of vendor contracts, non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), business associate agreements (BAAs), confidentiality agreements, consulting contracts, and insurance certificates, other managed care contracts.
  • Identify and flag key legal risks, compliance concerns, and business terms for review.
  • Maintain an organized contract database and track key deadlines, and renewals.
  • Assist in redlining contracts, summarizing terms, and ensuring consistency with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Review documents and coordinate communication with outside counsel and internal teams.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are reviewed for compliance with program regulations, insurance regulations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in drafting policies, procedures, and legal correspondence.
  • Support the drafting, tracking and archiving of organizational policies.
  • Lead document retention practices and provide guidance to staff.
  • Support compliance with corporate governance and licensing requirements.
  • Maintains and tracks laws and regulations, contract documentations, amendments, and various compliance measures.
  • Conduct legal research on healthcare laws, contract interpretation, and industry best practices.
  • Prepare memos, reports, and legal summaries for senior executives.
  • Perform special projects, as assigned.

Required Competencies & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred: Law or legal studies or Health Administration)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of paralegal experience, preferably in a managed care, healthcare, or insurance organization.
  • Legal knowledge: Strong understanding of contract law and healthcare regulations.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills for interacting with attorneys, executives, and stakeholders.
  • Technical writing expertise.
  • High sense of integrity.
  • Ability to work independently and manage own work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient knowledge of spreadsheets/graphics, presentation, and databases.
  • Strong analytical skills, communication skills, and relationship skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and prioritize tasks appropriately.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents including but not limited to new regulations, laws, etc.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Paralegal certification (ABA-approved program) strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in contract negotiation and dispute resolution.
  • Familiarity with CMS regulations, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and HIPAA compliance.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Requires operation of computer workstation, including keyboard and video display terminal.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Salary range: $61,000 - $83,000 annually
